Stray modders are putting their own four-legged friends in the game

Stray is a game where you play as an adorable orange cat lad. Some of us—like deputy guides editor Lauren Aitken (opens in new tab)—are luckily enough to already have the protagonist resemble one of our four-legged friends. For others, the desire to have their own fur babies represented is mighty strong.

As spotted by Imogen Donovan (opens in new tab), a quick glance at Nexus Mods and you’ll be met with an entire litter of reskins made to resemble either the modder’s own pets or to fulfil requests on behalf of other players who want their cat in-game. It’s absolutely bloody adorable and has opened the game to a whole variety of fuzzy friends. There are tuxedo cats, calicoes, and even adorable sphynxes! Some, like this gorgeous grey domestic cat (opens in new tab), have been made to honour pets who passed away. I’m not crying,

Can Google’s new Carbon programing language may replace C++ in the coming days?

Carbon was unveiled this week at the “CPP North” C++ conference in Toronto by Google Principal Software Engineer Chandler Carruth. This brand-new programming language in development aims to transform C++ codebases more effectively than Rust. Experts claim that Rust lacks the same degree of two-way interoperability as other technologies, which creates a sort of language barrier when converting between various programming languages.

The Long-Term Relationship Between Programming Languages and Google

Google has developed a number of programming languages over the years, some of which have gained significant notoriety and prominence. As an illustration, Golang (or just Go) was developed to facilitate the creation of servers and distributed systems and has since been embraced by the general public.

The Dart programming language, which was first meant to serve as a JavaScript substitute, didn’t gain widespread acceptance until the release of Flutter.

What distinguishes Carbon from other materials now?

New computer mouse makes it possible for paraplegics to train their breathing

Why we write about this topic:

This research project can significantly improve the lives and health of people with significant mobility impairments.

One of the most underestimated side effects of high paraplegia is breathing difficulties. This is due to the paralysis of important respiratory muscles. This worsens coughing and secretion defense, which can lead to complications such as pneumonia. More than that, respiratory problems are among the leading causes of death. It has been scientifically proven that regular respiratory training can prevent this, which is why sufferers should undergo ongoing respiratory training, explains graduate engineer Michael Gstöttenbauer from the Austrian research facility LIFEtool in Linz. The non-profit company specializes in assistive technologies, particularly for people with severe mobility impairments.

Access to regular breathing training

Now the research facility wants to enable those affected to do breathing training independently of others and on their own at home. This is because training

Research shows that using dual monitors boosts productivity. However, using side-by-side monitors isn’t always optimal because of the large gap between the monitors, diminishing the view. The side-by-side setup also spans outside of people’s peripheral vision which can lead to neck strain.

NexPad’s solution is a second display at an elevated height that can reduce neck strain and help improve posture, boosting productivity and convenience.

“We are launching NexPad to enable the modern professional to be more productive in the ever more mobile workplace,“ said Emre Kosmaz, CEO and founder of Nex Computer.

LG announces Smart Monitor, a 4K PC monitor with Smart TV features

Samsung and LG compete in many market segments, and over the years, the two South Korean companies have “borrowed” ideas from each other without hiding much. LG continues this rivalry in the monitor market as well, announcing the new LG Smart Monitor, an alternative to Samsung’s smart monitor announced a few years ago. Of course, being an LG display, it’s equipped with webOS instead of Tizen, but otherwise offers similar capabilities: it’s a hybrid between a monitor and a TV.

LG Smart Monitor could be useful for those who want a small TV and a large PC monitor in one package

The LG Smart Monitor (32SQ780S) comes in one size, with a 31.5″ diagonal and 4K resolution at 65 Hz, and is billed as a productivity monitor as well as an entertainment monitor. It benefits from a USB-C hub to provide charging and the ability to attach accessories more easily
